Wanderlust
I've got the travel bug...
I have this morning off of work and all I can think about it travelling. I have the feeling of bottled up energy and all I want to do is run and jump and experience everything. I'm craving fun. I want to explore the world and fill this blog with my adventures.
Back in 2016 I went travelling on my own. Not true backpacking where I left for several months, but I went to America and camped my way down the east coast for 9 days with a tour group of people I had never met before.
It was a big deal for me, my first long haul flight, my first flight on my own, my first time in America, my first time camping and my first adventure. I loved it. I met new people and explored Washington D.C, Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans. I grew as a person and gained so much confidence that once I got back to the UK the thought of going somewhere on my own was no longer terrifying.
There is a list many miles long of places I want to see but one I've wanted to go to for a while is Croatia. It looks beautiful and peaceful and the perfect place to relax and write.
The weather will be beautiful and after the cold English winter I need to boost my Vitamin D and get a healthy glow back. Croatia has some of the most gorgeous beaches. Smooth pebbled beaches, not the best for sun bathing but I'm sure I can cope and calm clear water perfect for paddling. Whilst it is beachy, it's also foresty. The beaches are lined with pine forests and olive groves where you can go hiking or cycling. So I can keep up my fitness while on holiday! I do actually enjoy casual walking, out in nature being one with the trees haha, so in an area as picturesque as the Zivogosce trails I'm sure I would be in my element!
There are also plenty of historical features to explore. Greek history is my favourite but I won't ever pass up an opportunity to wander around a palace and old world streets. There's also St Domnius' cathedral which I'm adding to my sightseeing list. It was originally built as a mausoleum, being the strange macabre human I am, I really want to go there. It's now lived and worked in by normal people but I still think it will be a wonderful opportunity to take in the architecture and the culture. Adding to the history are the Archaeological and Ethnographic museums with their own collections of local finds and stories.
Last but definitely not least is the amazing food on offer in the coastline restaurants and hidden away cafes. Croatia boasts some of the best and freshest seafood in the world, which I am unfortunately allergic to but from my research they grill a mean steak of local Oxen meat! All the reviews recommend trying out the taverns where you can get locally sourced and prepared food. If you're going to try it then you should probably go for the real, authentic, good stuff.
This is just a short overview (I have to go into work today, I'm not a travel blogger yet) and I haven't picked a time of year but I've asked my friends to see if they're free. If no one is up for a trip to Eastern Europe then I'm happy to go alone. Absorb, learn and grow.
